Patrocinio. Ze Carlos Grossi is a living legend in Brazilian Coffee. He is one of the first to plant coffee in the Cerrado region, the first to implement mechanical harvesting, and one of the first to produce large quantities of high-quality coffee in the region. He is the single largest supplier of coffee to Illy in the world. And he is respected by nearly every farmer you talk to. As one farmer told me, “Ze Carlos is the kind of farmer that doesn’t get boxed into a corner. He buys and sells because its the best decision, not out of necessity.” I had the opportunity to sit down with Ze Carlos Grossi and ask him questions about how he came to plant coffee in the Cerrado region. Our conversation stretched from the Austro-Hungarian empire to his current production. Its always nice to hear history from someone who has created a little bit of it.
The first mechanical harvester to be used in Brazil. It is still used today, over 30 years later.
