Sítio das Pedras

Pioneering organic coffee producer

Luis Adauto de Oliveira is a unique coffee visionary in Brazil, and for this he was recognized in 2007 as the Brazilian Coffee Producer of the Year. He founded Coopfam, one of Brazil's first Fair Trade and Organic Co-ops. He and his wife consistently produce a wonderfully fruity yet clean naturally-processed coffee that highlights the potential of the Poço Fundo/Machado micro-region. It is, in fact, a naturally-processed coffee that is oftentimes more "Harrar-like" than a Harrar. (Fair Trade, Organic)

2007 Brazilian Coffee Producer of the Year
Luis was rewarded for his efforts to seek a fair price for the coffee and to educate the producers with the 2007 Brazilian Coffee Producer of the Year - no small award given that Brazil produces a third of the world's coffee

The Good Earth

We have had the good fortune of visiting Luis Adauto's farm on several occasions, and each time he returns to the live earth.  Instilled with the virtues of organic farmer by his mother (pictured below) Luis Adauto is always ready to dig and show you the abundace of life in the soil that there is to be found at Sitio das Pedras.

Like many great farms, Sitio das Pedras is bordered from above by a natural preserve that acts as a natural irrigation system

The entrance to the Upper Lots of Sitio das Pedras are through this small opening in the banana trees.

And it's not all work. The "reading couch" as Adauto calls it, is conveniently located next to the drying patio in front of his house.
