Cup of Excellence winner Santa Inês is one of the top farms in one of Brazil's top regions.
Santa Ines gained worldwide recognition in 2005 when its Cup of Excellence winning lot scored a remarkable 95.85 and sold for $49.75/lb and firmly established Carmo de Minas as the epicenter of Specialty Coffees in Brazil. Nestled in the Mantiqueira Mountains and with views as wonderful as the coffee it produces, Carmo de Minas presents the confluence of altitude, climate, and producers that know how to take advantage of what they have.
Year after year coffees from this privelaged microclimate have defined themselves with wonderfully bright citric acidity and intense sweetness. So much so, in fact, that the Serra da Mantiqueira is on its way to become the first coffee region in Brazil to receive the DO Denominação de Origem, linking specific flavor attibutes to their region.
One of the key distinguishing factors of Carmo de Minas, apart from its privelaged micro-climate, is the unity and dedication to excellence of the growers in the region. Planting higher quality (though often lower-yielding varities) and employing labor-intensive selective harvesting, they are able to capitalize on the potential of the micro-climate in which the operate.
