Sitio du Tileco first garnered attention in 1999, when it finished second in the inaugural Cup of Excellence.
A teacher at Agro Technical school in Machado and a convervationist by heart, Alex Nannetti decided to combine his passions in a unique project: Cafe au Naturel. No pesticides, fertizilers, no weeding. Simply put, coffee in its natural state. The result is a very unique coffee that is reminiscent of great Sumatras. Earthy, vegetative, yet smooth and velvety with no astrigency.
When drying his coffee, after an intiital drying on the patio in thin layers, Alex uses the "volcano technique" of plling the mostly-dried coffee into piles, then slowly spreading out the pile to the surrounding patio.
The undergrowth around the trees is not cut, rather Alex selects plants that have a symbiotic relationship with the coffee. Where does the name Sitio du Tileco come from? Du is for his wife Dulcimara, and Tileco is his childhood nickname. Alex has set aside over a quarter of his property as an official conservation zone of the Mata Atlantica.
