Fazenda Recanto

Since 1896, the Magalhães Paiva family has been growing coffee at Fazenda Recanto, where many of the farm’s original structures are still in use. Recanto has long been known for quality coffee, winning awards as far back as the 1930’s, and more recently winning the Rainforest Alliance’s Cupping for Quality competition. Since 1985, Maria Selma and Afranio have managed the farm, maintaining its well-deserved reputation by consistently producing great coffees year after year. Having raised their family on the farm, they now share management duties with their daughter Paula, who represents the fifth generation of coffee growers at Recanto.

In addition to their commitment to coffee quality, the Magalhães Paiva family has made model sustainability a goal for Fazenda Recanto. In 2006, they became one of the first farms in Brazil to certify with the Rainforest Alliance, and over one-third of the farm has been set aside as a natural preserve, ensuring that the diverse fauna and flora that thrive at Recanto will remain for the generations to come.
