This afternoon the COE international jury visited Fazenda Sertãozinho. On the farm is the 1500+ year old Jequitiba Tree pictured here. It is the symbol and logo of the farm. Located near Botelhos in the Sul de Minas coffee region, Sertãozinho’s average altitude is 1200m, average temperature is 19ºC and the farm has annual average rainfalls of 1,600 mm.
The farm is managed by José Renato Gonçalves Dias (pictured here). José Renato, or Zé Renato, has developed a name as a very adept manager with the ability to raise not only the quality of a farm’s specialty coffee, but also the percentage of specialty coffee that a farm can produce.

Fazenda Sertãozinho provides free schooling for the children of the 150+ full time workers. They also support continuing education classes for the adults.
