Brewing 101

Guidelines

The Grind
  • A burr grinder is best as blade grinders often result in inconsistent particle size.
  • Grind only what you need for each brew, and grind immediately prior to brewing to ensure freshness.
Water
  • Use clean-tasting filtered water: bad water makes bad coffee.
  • Do not use distilled water as particles in the water are necessary to adhere to and extract the coffee solubles.
  • Brewing temperature should be 195º to 205º F.
Cleanliness
  • Coffee oils can remain on equipment and become rancid over time. Clean your equipment regularly!
