Since 1890 the Dias family has grown coffee in the volcanic-rich soils of the Vale da Grama, a micro-region that has rightfully been recognized as home to some of the country’s best coffees. Diogo Dias of Fazenda Recreio has played an important role in maintaining this tradition, winning the Cup of Excellence in 2004 and consistently placing among the top finishers. The intense inclinations of this picturesque terrain have long inhibited any attempt to focus on quantity production. Instead the focus is on maximizing the unique micro-climate’s potential to produce wonderfully sweet and citric coffees.
